Our school system is committed to protecting the health of our students, teachers, and staff. The New Jersey School Boards Association distributed a report: “Health and Safety Guide: Mercury Hazard in Schools from Rubber-Like Polyurethane Floors”. As a result, I reported at the August 30th Board of Education meeting that other New Jersey districts were experiencing air quality issues related to their gymnasium's rubber flooring. It was also announced that the district would proactively test the rubber gym floors in our schools for the potential of mercury vapor emittance.
